Take the Shot

I was on Threads the other day when I came across a photograph of a lovely landscape. The poster asked if taking pictures of landscapes took any skill. After all, it's the beauty of the scenery that is what people resonate with. All the photographer does is take a picture of it.

That post reminded me of an old memory. One of those memories formed long ago and is somewhat clouded so that after all these years, you're not sure what is real and what is imagined. I'm in an art gallery and the famous (infamous?) painting Voice of Fire is there. Somebody remarks, "I could have done that." Then someone from the gallery turns around and remarks, "Yeah, but did you?"

This has always stuck with me when people criticize art or music, or anything really. And prompted me to get outside and go for a drive this morning. I knew the moon was only up until 10 am so I had better take one of the few opportunities I get. Fortunately, the clouds weren't too bad and I managed one decent shot of the moon. And, since I was already out, I decided to drive down some back roads and see what I could see. Maybe it was the scenery, maybe it was my skill, but more likely, it was the simple fact that I just went out and took the pictures.
