Dinosaurs & Badlands
The Kroekers took a road trip!! We got up early Saturday morning and drove out to Eastend, SK. It's a trip that I wanted to take for a while now. It was a nice drive, took about an hour and a half. It was enough time for the girls to have a short nap in the car and for the smoke to lift. There was still some haze in the air but the thick, heavy smoke was gone. It must have rained the night before because there were lots of puddles on the side of the highway.
We arrived at the T-Rex Discovery Centre shortly after they opened. We watched the short video on the process of finding and excavating Scotty. It was good to get the history behind the fossils we were about to see. Then it was time for the main event. Izzy even got to take a scavenger hunt.
We had a nice lunch at Jack's Cafe and then it was time for the second part of our adventure. Ever since we moved to Swift Current, I have wanted to go and visit the Frenchman Valley. It's hard to know where, and how to get there, and then find the time to go. In my search of things to do in Eastend, after the T-Rex museum, I saw a lot of interest in Jones Peak. It was a bit of a drive through the middle of nowhere, over a couple Texas gates, into a farmer's field, and up the muddy and half washed out road, but the view was worth it.
It was a great little day trip and I'm glad we took the time to do it. The girls got another nap on the drive home and I think it's my turn now.
Wildlife seen: deer, antelope, coyote, badger, T-Rex.
