Not Exactly What I Had Planned
The holiday started out just fine. On Tuesday , I went to work. When I got home and Mark made appetizers for us. Then we did dishes and opened stockings.
Christmas Eve morning, I got up and made coffee and Danishes. We waited for the girls to get up then opened presents.
Mark gave me crampons so I decided to try them out. There had been so much rain lately that all the walking paths were covered in ice. The crampons made a big difference. Then we made supper and packed for our drive the next morning.
Christmas Day. I woke up around 5 am and heard the rain. We had our breakfast and packed up the car. We got about 5 minutes out of town and decided to turn around. There was ice and slush all over the road. We have learned from previous experiences that road conditions only get worse. We spent an hour agonizing over whether or not to go but ultimately decided to put ourselves out of our misery and call it. We spent the day watching tv, eating cookies and Christmas chocolates.
It was disappointing not to be able to spend Christmas with the family I haven’t seen in a while. I had set aside Christmas Eve for our own family Christmas and planned to spend the rest of the week with extended family. However, winter weather did not care about my plans. And it’s not worth the risk. To be fair, this is the first Christmas we’ve had to cancel because of weather. That’s not bad, I guess.
